This week we had some mixed feelings about one of the catches. We caught approx. 30 spurdogs in each of the nets, mostly females. Spurdog is viviparous, so does not lay eggs. The females all carried many young in their bellies.

Of course, we like to know that there is spurdog in the North Sea, and that it is able to reproduce. On the other hand, we try to give especially this type of animals as much chance to continue their life. So, instead of sorting the full catch first, the scientific crew together with the ship's crew carried the spurdogs from the conveyor belt, measured and weighed them, and released them as soon as possible. This is what it looked like.
