The 2019 Dutch beam trawl survey started last Monday. We left the port of Scheveningen (the Hague) just before noon and went off for some weeks of fishing on fish and other animals living near or buried in the seabed, such as flatfish species, starfish, crabs.
The second haul already contained a lot of catch. We caught some sand and with it the animals living in and on it. The processing (sorting, measuring, weighing, collecting biological information of a number of fish species) took quite some time, mainly because the catch of both nets had to pass our hands and eyes. Each net contained aprox. 1600 kilo's of catch, which is a lot as you can see on the picture.
de vangst uit het sturboord net, ongeveer 1600 kilo// the catch from the starboard net; approx. 1600 kilo |
we deden allemaal ons best om de vangst zo goed mogelijk te verwerken// we all did our best to process the catch as good as possible |
zoals altijd most het visdek flink schoongemaakt worden na het sorteren van de vangst// as always, the deck had to be cleaned thoroughly after the sorting was done |
