Annual Beam Trawl Survey off to a good start / Jaarlijkse bookor survey een goed begin.

On Monday 16^th of August Dutch research vessel RV Tridens set sail from Scheveningen harbour on a 4 week voyage for the purpose of the annual beam trawl survey. During the survey 72 stations spread systematically across the North Sea will be fished with an 8m beam trawl. The main purpose is to collect data in abundance, length frequencies and age-length relationships, sex-ratios and maturity stages within the flatfish populations, in particular for plaice and sole. These data are later sent to ICES (International Council for the Exploration of the Seas) working groups to be used in stock assessment models. The output of these models is the basis for the quota advice which is given to the EU.

Op Maandag 16 Augustus vertrok het onderzoeksschip Tridens vanuit Scheveningen voor de jaarlijkse boomkorsurvey. Tijdens de komende 4 weken worden over de hele Noordzee verspreid 72 stations bevist met een 8m tuig. De boomkursurvey is bedoeld om visserij-onafhankelijke gegevens te verzamelen van de leeftijdssamenstelling van tong en schol in de Noordzee. Deze gegevens worden gebruikt door de ICES-werkgroep die de visbestanden in de Noordzee en het Skagerrak evalueert. Het is een belangrijke bron voor het doen van vangstvoorspellingen en hoe hiermee om te gaan. Behalve kengetallen voor de talrijkheid van tong en schol levert de boomkorsurvey ook waardevolle informatie voor het monitoren van de toestand van het Noordzee ecosysteem.

 

Despite some unsettled weather at the start, the BTS 2015 is off to a good start with 15 stations covered in the first 3 days. The stations are shown in on the map. On Friday we expect to fish in the Moray Firth which always throws up some unexpected catches and a lot of biodiversity.

Ondanks het rare weer op dinsdag is de survey goed begonnen en hebben we in 3 dagen 15 stations kunnen bevissen met goede vangsten. De stations zijn te zien op de kaart. Vrijdag verwachten we in de Moray Firth te vissen waar we altijd wat verrassingen in het net tegen komen
