Zeekomkommer Trachythyone elongata// Sea cucumber Trachythyone elongata |
On the 5th of August 2019 the Tridens left for its second week of the BTS. We began sampling were the previous crew stopped. Currently we are fishing with a higher fishing speed, because we are on soft soil. In our samples we find species as seastars, hermit crabs, several crab species and species like Nephrops. Besides these benthos, we find fish species like plaice and dab, so basically these are quite common species. However the last few hauls brought some less common species on the conveyor belt. On Monday we caught a Snake pipefish and on Tuesday a cuckoo ray (Leucoraja naevus) (against all odds), a few sea cucumbers (i.a. Trachythyone elongata) and a small mud lobster (Upogebia deltaura).
The weather conditions are good, so it looks like we are going to have a good week on the North Sea. Our sampling is going well and we are on schedule. We have a golden team!
